Summary
Ionic liquids (ILs) are salts in the liquid state at room temperature with some relevant properties, namely low vapor pressure over a wide temperature range, higher thermal conductivity than molecular fluids and molten salts, some of them being safe, non-toxic, biodegradable, with low viscosity and cost. Therefore, they are considered sustainable novel solvents in chemical technology, making them possible candidates for heat transfer applications.\nAlthough some of their thermophysical properties (density, heat capacity, thermal conductivity and viscosity) are very convenient for heat transfer applications, it has been shown that the dispersion ( A dispersion is a colloid, where the dispersion phase is a liquid and the dispersed phase is a solid, in this case a nanomaterial. Dispersions are solid/liquid biphasic or multiphasic systems) of synthetic or natural nanomaterials in ionic liquids, the IoNanofluids, increase their efficiency in heat transfer and storage, making heat transfer units energetically more effective.\nThe current address will give an overview of work in this area, focusing the possible applications of ionic liquids and IoNanofluids in the refrigeration area, namely their use in consumer electronics cooling. Aspects like nanofluid stability and nanomaterial impact on the environment will also be dealt, focusing on the sustainable development goals (SDGs) of United Nations.\n
