Summary
The Tejo-Sado/Margem Esquerda (T3) aquifer system is identified as being of great importance in supplying water in the Setúbal Peninsula. However, the complexity of the system and the anthropogenic pressure in the Montijo and Alcochete regions have caused problems in groundwater management. The aim of this study is to develop a numerical model that can assess the impact of water extractions and climate change on water resources. A total of 1463 water points were inventoried with information on lithologies, hydraulic parameters obtained from pumping tests, and data from field measurements of water levels and samples from 34 wells. The analysis of drilling logs focused on the depth at which carbonated sediments with organic material were crossed, thought to mark the Pliocene-Miocene transition. Time series of static and hydrodynamic levels were studied from 1960 to 2020 to interpret the hydraulic behavior of the system.
