Summary
The present invention relates to extracts from species of the genus Hypericum L., namely H . humifusum L., H. calycinum L., H. elodes L ., H. hircinum subsp. majus (Aiton) N. Robson, H . glandulosum Aiton, H . grandifolium Choisy and H . foliosum Aiton, obtained by extraction with an hydroxylated solvent or mixtures with water in order to obtain, after solvent evaporation, concentrated extracts active against multidrug-resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The invention also relates to a method of preparation of the above extracts as well as to pharmaceutical compositions that contain these extracts, useful in the treatment and/or prevention of persistent tuberculosis.
