Summary
Highlights\n•\nTwo new Fe(III)-aminophenolate 8-hydroxyquinoline complexes were prepared.\n• The complexes are octahedral high-spin mononuclear iron(III) complexes.\n• The complexes maintain their structural integrity several hours in aqueous media.\n• The complexes show very high selectivity towards bone cancer cells.\n• The complexes cause cell death in the osteosarcoma cell line by inducing apoptosis.
