Summary
Working fluid properties are key factors in the design and performance of heat exchangers for chemical process design, in general, and particularly for absorption refrigeration technologies [1,2]. Conventional working pairs like aqueous solutions of lithium bromide or ammonia have problems of crystallization, corrosion and toxicity. Ionic liquids are excellent candidates as absorbents for absorption systems, as they have great solvent character, good thermal stability and very low vapor pressure [2-5]. Most of the IL-based working pairs suggested in the literature have not met so far, the industrial requirements. Reliable property data and models to predict thermodynamic data of multicomponent systems and transport properties such as diffusion coefficient, viscosity and thermal conductivity are needed. \nThe project ILGerants aims to contribute to the definition of new refrigeration mixtures based on ionic liquids, through the study of thermophysical properties, toxicity, biodegradability and coefficients of performance (COP) in absorption cycles, in order to be technically, economically and environmentally acceptable as an alternative to the fluids currently being used by the industry. In this work, the progress of the project will be presented as well as a critical interpretation on how calculations of the COP may affect the choice of a fluid, suitable for this purpose. \n\nReferences\n[1] J.P.M.
