Summary
In this work, we conduct a practical comparison of the different performances of several heat transfer fluids in a simple, home-made solar collector that allows for great control and analysis of the experiments. As baseline for the comparison, measurements with water, commercially available ethylene glycol and a mixture of both are used. Nanoparticles of the natural pigment melanin are then added and an evaluation of its impact on the base fluid is discussed. The efficiency of the solar collector was found to increase 12% with this nanofluid.
