Resumo
Chemistry is by far the central science in the current world. Its concepts, theories, models and experiments evolved over more than 300 years, since its separation from Natural Philosophy and the understanding of the concept of molecule. No scientist works on his own, divorced from an enormous scientific knowledge developed by his ancestors or precursors. Understanding the roots and collaborations of each scientist along his/her life, associated with the original contribution in each field, paves the way for a richer and objective history of science and technology. This paper is a first attempt to recommend an illustrating and objective methodology for all chemists (but not restricted to) to better understand their own work, the origins and influences of previous and contemporaneous colleagues, by developing their own genealogic academic tree and, following Sir Isaac Newton writing in 1675 “(…) if I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants (…), and discovering their own giants”.
