Resumo
Background: Reminiscence therapy is commonly used due to its therapeutic value for people with dementia (PwD), as it can promote independence, positive moods and behavior. Several technological solutions have been created to help delivering a more vivid and engaging reminiscence activity for all participants. However, they do not aid caregivers to manage the multiple tasks required for preparing and conducting sessions.\\n\\nMethod: A user-centered design with iterative prototyping was conducted through two rounds of semi-structured interviews, and focus groups. At each step, the KeepsakeBox prototype was evaluated (with caregivers), and improved based on the suggestions made. At the end of each interview and focus group, participants filled the System Usability Scale (SUS) and Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) questionnaires to report their satisfaction with the KeepsakeBox.\\n\\nResults: Our preliminary evaluation with 2 informal and 18 formal caregivers showed promising results. We achieved an average SUS score of 85 (grade A+), suggesting caregivers found KeepsakeBox easy to use and learn, and would recommend it to other caregivers. The TAM results suggest that caregivers think the KeepsakeBox would help them to manage and conduct reminiscence therapy more easily (score of 28.2). All the functionalities presented regarding the management of multiple PwD, upload of images to be used as stimuli, and communication with other caregivers were very well received, and its overall design was very complimented.\\n\\nConclusions: KeepsakeBox was designed taking into consideration the real needs of the caregivers to prepare, conduct, and consult sessions. The discussion with caregivers about how therapy sessions should be created in the KeepsakeBox, and which information should be collected after each session was very enlightening, and will guide the development of those functionalities.
