Summary
A vanadium(V) dimer [\\VO2(py)(2)\\(2)(mu-C2O4)] 1, has been isolated from a solution of [VO(sal-Phe)(H2O)] 2 (sal-Phe = N-salicylidene-L-phenylalaninate) in H2O/pyridine. Its crystal and molecular structure has been determined by X-ray diffraction analysis, the oxalate acting as a symmetrical bis(chelating) bridge. Possible mechanisms for the formation of oxalate are briefly discussed.
