Summary
This paper presents a review of the philosophy to be used in the prediction of the transport properties of the fluid, established by the authors in the late 70's ( Nieto de Castro and Wakeham, 1978 ), updated with several new examples that enhance the validity of the assessment of methods and attitudes then suggested. The distinctions between prediction and estimation are stressed, using particular examples to emphasize the differences between them, in relation with confidence levels of the calculations performed. Some considerations on the use of equations of state and recommendations on the development of thermophysical properties surfaces are made.
