Resumo
IoNanofluids are the suspensions of nanoparticles in ionic liquids. This is a new type of nanofluids and has yet to receive wide scientific attention as seen for nanofluids [1-2]. With the numerous advantages and benefits of ionic liquids together with the dispersed nanoparticles as heat transfer enhancer these emerging fluids have great prospects for superior performance in thermal management systems compared to those of pure ionic liquids. Although limited numbers of studies, most of which are from our research group, have been conducted on thermophysical properties of ionanofluids, the reported findings indicate that these fluids possess higher thermal conductivity and heat capacity compared to those of their base ionic liquids [e.g., 3-4]. In addition, although influence of temperature on the thermal conductivity of ionanofluids was found to be neutral, specific heat and viscosity of these fluids were reported to be positively (increasing for specific heat and decreasing for viscosity) influenced by the temperature. These demonstrate that ionanofluids can perform better in thermal management systems compared to pure ionic liquids. In this study, thermophysical properties of ionanofluids will be evaluated and their potential applications in thermal management systems will be assessed together with highlighting the main challenges of these new fluids.
