Resumo
Molten salts constitute an important class of fluids for high temperature applications, like catalytic medium for coal gasification, molten salt oxidation of wastes or latent and sensible heat storage ?1?. In this presentation we will review the available data for the thermophysical properties (density, viscosity, thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity) of molten alkali carbonates and relevant mixtures. Pure Li2CO3, Na2CO3 and K2CO3, mixtures of Li2CO3-Na2CO3, Li2CO3-K2CO3 (binary eutectics) and Li2CO3-Na2CO3-K2CO3 (ternary eutectic) and nanofluids based in these carbonate melts were included. These systems are especially adequate for applications in high temperature regimes, like those involving high temperature energy storage, coolants or molten salts oxidations of wastes. The thermophysical properties of fluids have a decisive role in the project involving heat transfer equipment, among others ?2?. But, from this review, it is evident that the correct design of emerging technologies like CSP (concentrated solar power) or MSO (molten salts oxidation) we still need new and accurate data for those properties as the scattering of data is still significant. Additionally, comments on how to improve present situation of methods and measurements are made.
