Resumo
The study of bioeroded rocky paleoshores applied to the practical\\\\nresolution of paleontological and geological issues, already showed its\\\\nusefulness. The study of the geological record of this kind of\\\\npaleoenvironments in Portugal, with particular interest in Neogene\\\\noccurrences, has resulted in a better understanding of the geological history\\\\nof the study areas in the context of the regional tectonics evolution and the\\\\nmain Neogene transgressive phases. Two Neogene bioeroded rocky shores\\\\n(Foz da Fonte, with new data being presented herein, and Oura), remarkable\\\\nfor both their extension and associated fossil record, have been analysed and\\\\nthe bioerosion ichnoassemblages identified. The bioerosion trace fossils\\\\ninclude structures produced by clionaid sponges, polychaete and sipunculid\\\\nannelids, acrothoracican cirripedia, endolithic bivalves, and echinoids. All\\\\nthe bioerosion structures correspond to the boring activity of endolithic and\\\\nmobile epibenthic organisms. From an ethological point of view, dwelling\\\\nstructures (domichnia) represented by the ichnotaxa Entobia, Caulostrepsis,\\\\nMaeandropolydora, Trypanites, Rogerella and Gastrochaenolites are\\\\ndominant, while those related with a combination of feeding habits such as\\\\ntrapping - food farming and food searching, agrichnion-pascichnia\\\\n(compound trace fossil Ericichnus-Circolites) are the less common. A\\\\nrelatively diverse assemblage of in situ body fossils has also been identified\\\\nassociated with these bioeroded surfaces, mainly made up of oysters,\\\\nbarnacles and colonial corals.
