Summary
The concept of nanofluids, and the consequent development of methods of preparation, characterization and\\napplications, was implemented mostly over the last two decades. Nanofluids contain nanoparticles, with dimensions lower than 100 nm, dispersed in a base fluid that can be water, oil or other fluids. For high temperature applications, for instance in concentrating solar power, molten salts are more suitable as base fluids. A myriad of authors have claimed enhancements in the thermophysical properties of these fluids, mostly thermal conductivity and heat capacity. Browsing to literature, it’s easy to see that viscosity it’s less studied although it affects the design and dimensioning of heat transfer equipments. The purpose of this paper is threefold: to review the literature on the viscosity of molten salt based nanofluids; to apply the existing theories to account for the concentration dependence of the viscosity of dispersed systems; and\\noutlook further developments in this field of research.
