Nanoparticles-loaded fluids for cooling modern electronics

Summary
The effective thermal conductivity and convective cooling performance of nanoparticles-loaded fluids\\n(i.e., nanofluids) in mini- and micro-channels systems are presented. Research findings on the direct application of\\nthese new fluids in cooling systems of electronic devices are also discussed and analyzed. Results showed that\\nnanofluids possess significantly higher thermal conductivity compared to their base conventional fluids. These new\\nfluids also exhibit enhanced convective heat transfer coefficients and reduced thermal resistance in mini- and microchannels\\nas well as microchannel heat sinks demonstrating their potential in cooling high heat generating electronic\\ndevices and systems. Research using nanofluids in electronic devices like computational/central processing units\\n(CPU) confirmed that these emerging nanoparticles-dispersed fluids can outperform conventional coolants in\\ncooling such modern electronics. In addition, future needs and challenges of these new coolants are also highlighted.
