Summary
Although extensive research on nanofluids have been conducted since coining this new class of fluids and good progress has been made in some areas particularly experimental measurements of thermophysical properties, there are lot of tough challenges and unsolved issues remain in the nanofluids research [1], and that many authors forget to consider.\nThe success of nanofluids research towards their practical application and commercialization for the socioeconomic benefits depends on the true research progress by resolving the unknown or mysterious issues, identifying and understanding the underlying heat transfer mechanisms and overcoming the challenges. About two decades have been passed since the innovation of the concept of nanofluids and according to recent records of research publications from all over the world suggested that this novel class of fluids is a hot research topic. The major challenges of nanofluids research include achieving long term stability of nanofluids, reliability and accuracy of experimental systems used to measure various properties of nanofluids, consistency and resolving uncertainties in measured data and findings, lack of fundamental understanding of heat transfer mechanisms, model development considering underlying mechanisms in macro to nanoscale, and practical application based research.\nIt is therefore important and timely to summarize progress and addresses the major challenges of\nnanofluids research and this paper briefly reviews the development and challenges of research in various\nareas of nanofluids. Special emphasis will be given to nanofluids preparation and IoNanofluids.
