Resumo
Present study demonstrates the effect of anions namely Chloride, Bromide, Iodide and fluorine based tetrafluroborate on the formation and stabilization of ruthenium nanoparticles in ionic liquid having 1-Butyl-3-methyl imidazolium cation [C4mim]+. UV-visible absorption and IR spectral assignments reflect the role of both cation and anion on stabilization of ruthenium nanoparticles. Ruthenium ionanofluids (Ru-INFs) are found to be thermally less stable (by about 23-30o C) as compared to base ionic liquids. Effect of anion variation on structure and particle size of Ru nanoparticles was studied by high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis is performed to know the electronic environment of Ru-INF for different anions. Density, Viscosity and Thermal conductivity of ionanofluids and their base ionic liquids were found to be anion dependent. The addition of 0.003 M RuCl3 to ILs revealed an increase of the thermal conductivity of about 4% compared to base ILs. Ru-INFs showed decrease in viscosity and enhanced thermal conductivity and thus prove better fluids for heat transfer application.
